Red, Glorious Red

November 15, 2010

On Friday, I asked you to notice what you don’t notice. Usually, I do pay attention to what inspires me but I think I was hyper-alert this weekend and found inspirations galore. Noticing really does kind of elevate the stuff that makes you feel alive versus the minor annoyances and inconveniences.

Here are some of the highlights from my weekend, many of which I will share more later this week.

  • Watched a great documentary, Ripple of Hope, with my husband.
  • The release of Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s pro-democracy dissident, after seven years of house arrest.
  • Gaining new insights on true acceptance from a book I’m reading,  The Unfolding Now, by A.H. Almaas
  • And, of course, an Indianapolis Colts victory, despite a poor showing by the offense.

But most of all I was inspired by the color RED.  It was everywhere! We are at that point of the year here in Indianapolis, where there is a final burst of brilliant reds on trees and bushes. In a week or so, it will all be gone and we will be on the cusp of winter.

This is the view towards the backyard of one of the houses I passed on my walk. Below is a bush at the house of one of my neighbors. Red is bold and beautiful and inspires confidence.

What inspired you this weekend?

There is a beautiful weeping Chinese maple that is a brilliant shade of red in my neighborhood. I thought the same thing as I passed it, how red inspires confidence. I wouldn’t have paid attention if I had not read your request.

Barbara! Nice to see you here. You inspire me with your Facebook posts. I’m glad you noticed the red too.
